Okcheon Eokkaesan Mountain Peak
Panoramic view of the Geumgang River from Eokkaesan Mountain Peak
If you climb to the top of Eokkaesan Mountain (441 m) located behind Geumgang Theme Park in Joryeong-ri, Dongi-myeon, you can enjoy the breathtaking view of the meandering Geumgang River, creating a panorama-like scenery. The Geumgang River, which originates from Jangsu-gun in Jeollabuk-do, enters Okcheon and intersects the Gyeongbu Line railway and the highway before reaching the Aggyesan Peak, where it takes a 180-degree bend. This mountain peak is the perfect summit from which you can fully appreciate the breathtaking scenery of the winding Geumgang River. Across the Geumgang River, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Jangryeongsan and Seodaesan to the southwest, and you can also see the distant Songnisan Mountain to the northeast. To the east of Eokkaesan Mountain Peak is Mangdeoksan Mountain (355 m), which is said to be connected to shoulder mountain. There is a folklore that the name was given because when you look at Eokkaesan and Mangdeoksan Mountains from a distance, they resemble the shape of a person’s shoulders. The trail to climb Shoulder Mountain starts at the parking lot of the Okcheon Ceramic Cultural Village. The hiking trail divides into two paths, with a valley in between. The left path is the original trail that passes through Neurigol Village and Geumgang Observatory, leading all the way to the summit. The right path follows the ridgeline, allowing for a gentle walk along the mountain’s midsection. The sunrise and the view of the ocean from the summit at dawn are impressive.
